A professional organization dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution. Home of the Conflict Resolution Education Network (CRENet), which is committed to creating safe schools and civil communities by making conflict resolution education universally available.

Fosters intergenerational cooperation and exchange. It runs a number of intergenerational programs, including the Linking Lifetimes mentoring program, and offers training, publications, and videotapes.

A 56-page monthly magazine for Activity and Recreation Professionals working in long-term care and assisted living facilities, adult day services, retirement communities, and senior centers. Excellent activity planning and educational information.

Supports schools, families, and children in character education, conflict resolution, violence prevention, and intergroup relations. Offers training, resources, and programs, including a K-12 school-based program in conflict resolution.

A non-profit organization that offers high-quality, affordable, educational adventures for adults who are 55 and older. They also offer unique intergenerational programs for grandparents and grandchildren.

A national program started in 1995 that mobilizes the time, talent, and experience of older adults in service to the community. It provides local schools and youth-serving organizations with caring older adults who can work directly with children, tutoring and mentoring.

Promotes interaction between young and old through community outreach, education, and research. It has an extensive library and offers a number of publications on intergenerational programming.

The premier national organization promoting intergenerational strategies, programs, and policies. It is a coalition of over 100 organizations, and offers a number of publications and a newsletter.

A professional organization that promotes the study, development, and teaching of effective listening. The website offers a listing of listening quotes, and other listening resources.

International Mentoring Association. An organization made up of individuals and groups interested in the theory and practice of effective mentoring.

Great ideas and expert information for people who believe in keeping the tradition of the family photo historian alive. They also offer a number of books on scrapbooking and preserving family memories. Teachers can use information to bring any subject to life for students -- family history, celebrating friendship, recording achievement, or exploring a new topic.

Promotes education about aging-related issues. It offers training, consultation, and resources for organizations, universities, and schools across the country.

An opportunity for seniors to share their time and talents by becoming involved in Foster Grandparents, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, or the Senior Companion Program.

Peace Education Foundation. (800) 749-8838, www.peace-ed.org. A nonprofit educational organization that promotes peacemaking skills in homes, schools, and communities. Offers classroom-tested curricula for pre-K through grade 12 as well as training and implementation support.

positivelyaging.uthscsa.edu. An interdisciplinary curriculum that helps teachers integrate lessons from aging research into their regular coursework. Enhances math, life and behavioral sciences, especially with regards to health promotion.

An intergenerational research and education group. It offers resources and award-winning books for educators, parents, and grandparents.

A high school curriculum, teaching, and learning project that integrates the study of intergroup conflict and the development of civic and social skills.

www.accuracy.org. The Institute for Public Accuracy is a nationwide consortium of policy researchers that seeks to broaden public dialogue by providing a variety of perspectives on issues in the media.

www.activepro.net. Programming ideas, information, and Internet links for activity professionals working in nursing homes and other seniors facilities.

www.americanheart.org. Website of the American Heart Association. Filled with information for understanding and preventing heart disease.

www.americanhistory.si.edu. Website of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Tour virtual exhibits on many topics.

www.aoa.dhhs.gov/naic/default.htm. A central source for a wide variety of information, facts, and statistics on aging.

www.civilrightsmuseum.org. Assists the public in understanding the lessons of the civil rights movement and its impact and influence on human rights movements worldwide. The website offers an interactive tour of the museum's exhibits and programs.

www.geezer.com. More than 500 senior artisans offer their beautifully handcrafted products to online shoppers. A great source for special gifts -- 6,000 products you won't find anywhere else!

www.idealist.org. Over 24,000 nonprofit and community organizations in 153 countries, which you can search by name, location or mission, along with thousands of volunteer opportunities for young and old.

www.joinhandsday.org. Website of Join Hands Day, a national project to bring youth and adults together to improve their own communities.

www.legacyproject.org. Website for the Legacy Project. Includes free online activity kits, resources, and contests, as well as information and award-winning books for grandparents, parents, schools, seniors and community groups.

www.oneworld.net. Gateway to global political and environmental groups and issues.

www.pbs.org/kcet/agelessheroes. Explores the spirit, vitality, and potential of men and women who have achieved success and continue to do so beyond the age of 65.

www.peacejam.org. An international education program built around leading Nobel Peace Laureates who work with youth to pass on the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody.

Patrick Reynolds, grandson of tobacco company founder RJ Reynolds, saw his father, oldest brother, and other relatives die from cigarette induced emphysema and lung cancer. He began an anti-smoking campaign that has made him one of the most effective, respected anti-smoking advocates. The website includes information on a powerful video for teenagers titled "The Truth About Tobacco," along with tips on quitting smoking, cool anti-smoking ads, and ideas for reaching young people with an anti-smoking message.
